Please don’t use anything smaller than a standard trowel because it will make it more difficult for you to spread it over your surface. So if you need three coats, just make sure that you have 30 mils (6 mm) coverage per application; although if you need more protection, simply apply more than three coats till the total protection desired is achieved. But give enough time interval between applying each layer of redgard to become dry.
